750°C Asphalt Binder Analyzer

The Carbolite Model ABA 7/35 Asphalt Binder Analyzer is specially designed to determine asphalt binder content in hot mix asphalt by the loss-on-ignition method. The analyzer utilizes a sophisticated furnace and weighing system. This weighing system continuously measures the weight loss of a bituminous mixture during combustion and automatically calculates the binder content of the asphalt.

The furnace chamber incorporates low thermal mass ceramic fiber insulation that provides extremely fast heat-up and recovery rates. An analysis test can be run 20-30 minutes after switching the furnace on. Typical test times range from 20 minutes for a 6 mm sample (average diameter of largest aggregate) to 45 minutes for a 40 mm sample. Operator safety is emphasized by a positive break safety door switch that cuts power to the heating elements when the door is opened, and an electrically actuated mechanical door lock that prevents opening the door during the test cycle. The furnace design incorporates double shell construction for a safe low temperature outer shell, a 180° opening side-swing door that provides complete access to the chamber opening, a unique chamber design that reduces heat losses when the door is opened, and recessed side heating elements that prevent mechanical contact when loading and unloading sample trays.

The furnace control panel is equipped with a LCD display that provides a readout of all necessary test data. The large easy-to-read back lighted LCD display provides helpful instructions that sequentially step the operator through the initial analyzer set-up. This display gives a clear indication of all test data and allows for easy input of data. All test set-up parameters can be saved with unique (customer specified) file names into libraries, and easily recalled for use at a later date. The Carbolite Asphalt Analyzer will automatically calculate the "asphalt calibration factor" when conducting a test with a known binder content. During the entire test, the display shows the changing asphalt sample weight and the calculated weight loss in grams and percentage. This information provides immediate indication of the progress of the test. At the end of the test, the display changes to clearly show the binder content of the sample, an alarm will sound indicating end of test, the door will be automatically unlocked, and the results are printed. These test results can be printed out in a choice of two formats, i.e. the final test results at the conclusion of the test, or the sample weight and weight loss in grams and percentage every minute during the test with final test results. The final printed test results include the furnace set temperature, sample weight, final weight, weight loss in grams, percent weight loss, asphalt calibration factor, test run time, time and date.

  • Fully compliant with all ASTM, AASHTO, and BS standards specifying procedure processes and equipment.
  • Widely recognized for superior design, high quality construction, durability, and trouble-free service.
  • The special afterburner is designed to substantially reduce the furnace emissions.
  • A balance is incorporated in the furnace to facilitate weighing of the asphalt sample to a display accuracy of 0.1 grams.
  • Calibration and leveling adjustments of the built-in balance are easily carried out.
  • Carbolite's asphalt analyzer furnace will accept Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) test sample weights up to 5000 grams (11 lbs.).
  • Loading of the test sample trays is aided by guides attached to the balance pan.
